    • (1) I will look around Melbourne, if you have any links...

      (2) I am looking for a sortable list of basic French words, suggestions?

      (3) The places that offer French lessons do not appreciate my reason for wanting to learn French. It seems that being able to understand the characters (you do know MLB, Wakfu and Code Lyoko?) is not why they want to teach French.

      (4) I am trying to get a better understanding of what is said in the French dialog. I have one video that id French and has French subtitles and see that they do not match word for word.

      (5) I know you can not pronounce French words like English words. A list of spoken words would be nice, Google Translate can speak but I understand not always accurate.

      (6) I want to organize a process using all I can collect not only to learn French but to convince and support others to learn and become fans of my favorite shows. (Are you a fan? xD )

      (7) I will share my efforts with you if you wish to use anything to help your teaching objectives.

      (8) Before I discovered the shows in French I was a typical American who did not see the point but when I fell in love with the characters speaking French the language came along for the ride. When I watch an episode and listen to the dialog and read the subs I give it total concentration. No casual listening, I listen to understand. But the English subs are not good enough, I need high-quality French subs. Suggestions?

      I'm afraid I don't.

      (2) I am looking for a sortable list of basic French words, suggestions?

      Sortable according to what parameters?

      (3) The places that offer French lessons do not appreciate my reason for wanting to learn French. It seems that being able to understand the characters (you do know MLB, Wakfu and Code Lyoko?) is not why they want to teach French.

That's a shame. I don't understand the point of such elitism. Perhaps you can find universities with remote/Internet classes that wouldn't bother to ask why you want to learn. I know TELUQ has a 12-credit FSL program, but they require students to have a beginner level already. (I'm very familiar with Wakfu of course, but only minimally aware of the other two.)

      (4) I am trying to get a better understanding of what is said in the French dialog. I have one video that id French and has French subtitles and see that they do not match word for word.

That is often the case with TV captioning. They keep the text as short as possible to facilitate reading, including altering words to keep only the essence of what is being said. I believe this is also the case with Netflix's subs.

      (5) I know you can not pronounce French words like English words. A list of spoken words would be nice, Google Translate can speak but I understand not always accurate.

Wiktionary might be a good place for that. A number of entries have an audio clip for pronunciation. I'm not immediately aware of any collated lists, but I'm sure they exist somewhere on language-learning sites like Duolingo. Presumably mobile apps would be a good place to look as well since it's a good platform to leverage both text and voice for teaching.

      (6) I want to organize a process using all I can collect not only to learn French but to convince and support others to learn and become fans of my favorite shows. (Are you a fan? xD )

I am, but I've moved my focus to other activities now.

      (7) I will share my efforts with you if you wish to use anything to help your teaching objectives.

Thanks, but I'm a terrible teacher and have no need for something like this.

      (8) I need high-quality French subs. Suggestions?

The fansubs for Wakfu season 2, Dofus: Kerub's Bazaar and Dofus: Book I include verbatim French transcripts, so you can rely on those. I can't remember for sure if the OVA fansubs include a French track as well, and I have no idea about season 3. The people who fansubbed season 1 were less organized and did not make a French track, so all you can find are a few episodes on various subtitle sites, and those are likely TV captions.

I also included transcripts for Maxi-Mini, which you can still find on the Brotherhood of Tofu Tumblr (under Extras) for a few minutes of additional content.

  • hey I want to say something about the god osamodas

there are too of his 10 commandments that make zero sense, and I wonder if it is some translation error.one of his commandments says"though shalt blow hot and cold according to the humor of the divine dragons"this makes no sense.is it a translation error?

an other commandment says"though shalt not have too much whine with dinner"does he mean wine?

english is not my first language so if he is using slang then please explain it to me.

    • Hi. They used a lot of puns and altered idioms in the original commandments, so I expect their translators had a hard time localizing some of them and maybe tried a little too hard to translate some of them literally. The first one doesn't mean much to me even in French, but I would have probably used "breathe" rather than "blow". So your breath will be cold or hot depending on the mood of the divine dragons... Not sure why that's a commandment since they probably can't control that, but oh well.

The second one is completely different in French. The play on "whine/wine" is voluntary and might be meant as a reference to someone being whipped and whining/moaning in pain. The original commandment would translate literally to "Thou shalt dress (set) the table before every meal," knowing that in French the verb "to dress" (in this context) coincides with "to tame or train an animal," which is of course a nice fit for an Osamodas. It creates a double entendre with "You shall train the table..."

      Hope that helps!

I didn't know osamodas could control the temperature of their breath, but what does the temperature of their breath has anything to do with the mood of the dragons.and how are they suppossed to know such things?

    • No idea.

    • The first one is probably meant to be somewhat metaphorical, suggesting that their attitude and behavior should change unpredictably. At least, that's my best guess.

  • Hey again! I'm busy working on my other wikis right now but hopefully I'll have more time to edit here next month.

In the meantime, I have a quick question- how do the categories work here? Take Category:Brotherhood of the tofu, for example. I'm assuming it is for characters in the group, yet there are also manga in the category. That wouldn't happen normally. If that is a mistake I can fix all the categories up.

Also, I'm thinking of a pretty big update for the character infoboxes. I will send a draft when I'm done.

    Thanks!

    • Yeah, turning category pages into articles probably wasn't the best idea. No one else does it so it will confuse a lot of people.

Universe, Characters, Media and Community are standard level 1 links in the top nav. Not all wikis use them but I think it works well here so I recommend using it.

As for the 2nd and 3rd level, some parts are just "filler" for now so try not to get too used them since they are subject to change until I have enough time to add the proper groups.

      • That's the plan with Lore.
      • A glossary page would also work. I'll see what I can do with it.
      • History vs Events- I thinking of specific "big" events that have their own pages, so it is different from history.
      • We can also go with classes instead. Not sure why they had to split it since you can have 12 or more links at level 3. But then again it took a really long time for the dofus wiki to even implement the new top nav when it was introduced.
      • As for the characters, while it may be hard to choose good links for this, I think it is too important of a link to not have. An easy way to narrow the choices down would be to pick the bigger pages. All of the character pages right now focus on info from the animated series, not so much on the comics, manga or games. Give me a bit more time to revise it as it is currently filler.
      • While movies can go under animation, there is still a lot of space left so it can also be separate esp. if they are planning more.

    • My problem with classes isn't so much that they can't technically be put in one dropdown, but that 17 items in a submenu is exaggerated and would probably take more than the available screen height for a lot of users.

I implemented a first version of the menu if you want to take a look.

      • For Universe, I first focused on the must-read articles (with Introduction itself linking to a page where we could put the glossary and an overview of the setting) followed by the main lore categories.
      • I gave History its own list, that we can expand with more major history articles when they are created.
      • I turned Locations into Geography and added a few placeholders such as nations and islands.
      • I placed Characters under Universe as well, with one general list of iconic characters for the ones who are featured the most often and/or currently relevant. I gave the BoT its own list since I estimate that a lot of traffic is driven by Wakfu specifically, and there would be room for more categories.
      • Media is mostly the same, but I consolidated comics and manga since they are conceptually the same, and added submenus for novels and traditional games. I culled the lists of games and animations to remove those that were never actually made or are no longer available and should not warrant spotlight.
      • I separated Community and Contribute as I had suggested. They should be easy to merge, though, if we need another top-level menu.
